Premier League Relegation Odds: Promoted Teams Make Up Three Favourites For The Drop

Last year saw all three promoted teams relegated back to the Championship for the first time since the 1998/99 season, and once again this year the three favourites for the drop are again the teams who have just made their way into the league via automatic promotion or the Championship Playoffs.

However, with all three teams being relegated seemingly quite an anomaly, it might be worth taking a look at one of the Premier League regulars for relegation in the 2024/25 season, with teams like Everton and Nottingham Forest both having flirted with relegation the last two seasons.

Alternatively, a team could be in a relegation battle if they have lost one of their star players, like Fulham losing Joao Palhina this summer, or if Brentford were to lose Ivan Toney late in the transfer window.

Take a look at the latest Premier League relegation odds below, and discover who could be worth betting on ahead of the new season, with some free bets also available for you to claim with OddsPortal on this page too.

Odds for Premier League Relegation

Like we have already mentioned, it's not particularly common for all of the teams that are promoted to be relegated, and realistically quite a lot of teams could easily be dragged into a relegation battle. Leicester City, promoted again this season, were never expected to be relegated a couple of seasons ago, but it just shows how possible it is for a team to slip down the table.

With a tough start in terms of the difficulty of the games for some teams, it could see a negative pattern begin that cannot be eradicated, with confidence easily lost in the Premier League with such high quality spread throughout the league.

The below table represents the short odds of some of the promoted teams, while some big odds currently available for some teams could quite easily dwindle as the season progresses.

Will We See The All Three Promoted Teams Relegated Like Last Season?

If the odds are correct, then we would be seeing Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton relegated back to the Championship just like we saw last season. However, the likelihood of it happening isn't very high with it only happening twice since the 1998/99 season, although it cannot be ruled out.

Leicester City don't have the worst squad of the three promoted teams, and were actually one of the strongest squads to ever be relegated from the Premier League. A few of those top players like James Maddison and Harvey Barnes left, but they were able to keep hold of the likes of Wilfried Ndidi, Wout Faes, Jamie Vardy, and others.

But, the big thing lingering above Leicester City is the potential points deduction, hence why they are the heavy favourites as it stands to drop back down to the Championship in the Premier League relegation odds.

Unsurprisingly, next in the odds for Premier League relegation with the weakest squad of the three promoted sides is Ipswich Town, who would be voted by many for the drop straight back to the Championship, especially with them only being in League One just two seasons ago. However, with an excellent coach in Kieran McKenna who was on the radar of both Chelsea and Manchester United following Ipswich's promotion, they do have a chance of defying the Premier League relegation odds.

Finally, of the promoted sides the most likely with online bookmakers to keep their place in the division is Southampton, who were the side to make their way up via the Playoffs.

Once again, they have a fantastic, forward-thinking manager in Russell Martin who is likely to be the deciding factor on keeping them up. But most importantly, they look to have a good blend of youth and experience heading back into the Premier League, showing why the bookies think they're best equipped to stay up this season out of the promoted teams.
